Honours – Example Sets
It has been noted by the Honours Board that members living away from the main centres have few opportunities to see successful Honours sets, and need to see what standard is expected for a successful application.
These three sets, one at each level, were successful at the 2009 judging, and give a good indication of the standard required. We suggest that prospective applicants examine the sets in conjunction with the article on Honours applications on this website. You will then be able to proceed more confidently with your own set.
Fellowship Projected Set
This beautiful set of panoramas by Helen Wilkin of New Plymouth was presented as Projected Images. It is particularly interesting to note the care with which each image has been chosen to succeed the previous one. Images 1 and 2 each have a corresponding strong triangular shape in the composition; images 3, 4 and 5 the triangular building/rock/mountain; images 6 and 7 the two similarly shaped buildings - see if you can work out the rest of them, and note the final full stop!

Associateship Print Set
This successful Associateship print set by Gillian Hodgson of Tauranga was based on the concept of arches, curves and shadows. Note the symmetrical layout, with each image complementing those around it.

Licentiateship Projected Set
Lorraine Gibb of Timaru has based her successful LPSNZ set on the colour orange. It’s not really necessary for Licentiateship sets to have a theme, but this set is certainly given unity and impact by Lorraine’s choice. She has also provided a diversity of subject matter and technique, and faultless execution, all of which are important for a successful application. As this is a “Projected Images” set, the progression of images is an important factor, with a smooth flow from one image to the next.
