Friday and Day three of the convention gave us beautiful clear skies – perfect for the field trips to take place. There were trips to White Island, to Rotorua, and to McLaren Falls, a Trip to Historic Waihi, a Mount and Harbour cruise, and a Kiwifruit and classic flyers’ experience. So spoilt for choice. Our roving reporter did the trip to White Island…
We all lined up very early in the morning while it was still dark. Annette Johnston checked us in and then we were off….
The Sun came up while we headed to Whakatane…
The White Island group Photographer for this blog is Jay Drew, and a boat was laid on in her name…
Cameras were clicking before the boat was untied…
Julieanne Kost sported the latest island fashions…
To get onto the island from the big boat we had to board small black rubber inflatables..
Everywhere you looked the photographers were doing what they do best – making images, making art. It would be interesting to count how many images in total were taken on this trip!
We took the bus and boat option to get to White Island but a few photographers took the helicopter option…
The trip went really quickly and it was suddenly time to go. Our poor guide was probably pleased to be back on the boat – worse than herding cats was herding a bunch of photographers. He had to keep on reminding us as we meandered off the beaten track, NOT to step on anything with steam coming out of it! Good tip!
On the way back in the boat the captain announced Dolphins were approaching.
Cameras immediately started to sound more like rapid machine gun fire. I suspect many of us ended up with some near misses!
On the way back, everyone had to make sure they had some photos of the day inside their cameras…
As soon as we got back from the White Island Trip it was time to grab some food and then into te main room for the presentation of the Natex Awards.
