Thames Steampunk Festival

8 November 10 November

We have an opportunity (vs a true workshop) for 4 of our members to be the official volunteer photographers for the Steampunk Festival in Thames from 8-10th November 2024. This year’s theme is “Down The Rabbit Hole”.

The schedule over the weekend is action packed with lots of great photographic opportunities. The leader of our group of 4 photographers would provide the Steampunk society an edited set of photographs (the best from all 4 volunteers) after the event for their use but the photos taken remain the property of the photographer that took them.

Our photographers would be provided with a photographic pass allowing them to get upfront and stage-front to all of the action.

The schedule is as follows:

Friday 8th November

  • 3-5pm. High Tea and Tea Duelling competition.

Saturday 9th November

  • 11am-2pm Street parade, vehicles, floats, people in costume, Thames market.
  • 2-3pm. The Strut. A staged catwalk type event.

Sat evening functions (2 photographers per function, 120-150 people per function)

  • A Victorian Masked Ball, Victorian costume, Victorian dancing etc
  • A mad hatters party at The Pump House.

(A Photo Booth will likely be set up for both evening events and possibly the High Tea. The booths and lighting gear are being supplied by a local professional photographer).

Sunday 10 th November

  • Community fair, “Unplugged Sunday”
    > Punk My Pet
    > Tea Pot Racing
    > MonsterPot Racing
    > Airships Racing
    > Live Music
    > Hobby Horse Racing
    > Parasol Duelling

Our photographers would have free access to all of the events over the weekend but would need to provide their own accommodation and transport. (Some accommodation by billet may be available, if required).

Ideally your camera should be able to trigger an off-camera flash. Triggers for Canon and Sony are being provided for the photo booths, but contact Jayne if you want to check the compatibility of your camera).

f you are interested in this opportunity please log into the Member’s Area to register. If you have any questions, please contact Jayne Parker at jayneparkernz@gmail.com.

Jayne Parker will be the remote team leader. She will liaise with the Steampunk committee representative to finalise arrangements, including the photo booth requirements, and coordinate the team across all of the events as well as pull together an edited set of photos from the team to be provided to the Steampunk committee. (Editing would be done by team members but the leader would need to ensure photo quality was appropriate and duplication of subject matter minimised).

There are currently 3 spots available for roving for photographers.

PSNZ Cancellation Policy

Due to the nature of the PSNZ Workshop Series and that the workshops are generally for small groups and often over-subscribed, cancellations can have a significant financial and attendance effect on the workshop, as well as creating a lot of further administration work.

Although we do everything possible to ensure our workshops proceed, sometimes there are things beyond our control.

  • PSNZ reserves the right to postpone or cancel a workshop due unforeseen circumstances e.g. covid level affects, facilitator illness, venue access issues, etc. In the event we do cancel a planned workshop, we will attempt to inform attendees as soon as possible and in most cases you will be given an alternative date to attend or provided with a full refund of the workshop costs.
  • If a workshop is postponed, the first right of refusal will be given to those who were already booked on that workshop for the rescheduled workshop.
  • Should a workshop fail to attract a required minimum number of attendees to make it viable to run, PSNZ reserves the right to cancel the workshop.
  • PSNZ will not accept responsibility for travel and accommodation costs incurred by attendees.
  • In the event that an attendee booked for the workshop does not turn up, no refund will be given.
  • If an attendee cancels between 30 – 15 days prior to the workshop, PSNZ will refund 50% of the workshop fee (less admin fee of $20).   If another person on the waiting list can their place, then the attendee will be refunded the total fee paid less the $20 admin fee.
  • No refund will be given if an attendee cancels within 14 days of the workshop date unless another person on the waiting list can take their place at short notice. A small administration fee of $20 will apply and be deducted from any refund.
  • PSNZ may give a full refund if there are exceptional circumstances involved in a person not being able to attend.
