After the formal opening speeches last night, the first evening of the PSNZ Convention continued on a high note, with the Marlborough District Brass Band performing for the audience.
Then we had the first presentation from Peter Eastway. He described himself as more of a photographer than a speaker, then proceeded to prove himself wrong by delivering a terrific opening address on the topic of “Create”.
He pointed out that while modern cameras can help a great deal with getting the right exposure and focus and colour and so on, they can’t find the right location, wait for the right light and weather, choose the camera angle or interpret in post-production. He continued on this theme and provided many examples of images before and after post production, and ideas on how to be more creative in general.
It was an excellent and thought-provoking start to the many presentations and workshops we’ll have over the next few days, and PSNZ is very grateful to Peter and others for stepping in to make up for the absence of Tony Hewitt, who had to cancel at the last minute due to a close family bereavement. Our sympathies are with Tony and his family.
